According to former Indian player Manoj Tiwary, Rohit Sharma, a legendary figure in Indian cricket, should have received a grand and honourable farewell for his tremendous efforts over the years. Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old walked away without getting a farewell despite playing Test cricket for 11 years. Tiwary said that Rohit should have made the announcement after playing a Test for India, giving him a chance to recieve standing ovation from his teammates and fans.

“If Rohit Sharma had retired on the field after playing a Test, it would have been a much more fitting farewell,” he told Cricbuzz.

He didn’t receive the same appreciation as Tim Southee and James Anderson, who bid adieu in front of teammates and fans. Tiwary expressed his displeasure with the team management for not giving the cricketing legend a fitting farewell.

“Look at his record as Test captain. It’ was impressive. He’s won 12 Tests, lost 9, and drawn 3. You can’t ignore his success,” he stated.

After leading the Men in Blue to success in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the right-handed batter announced his retirement from the shortest format.

The former cricketer highlighted Rohit Sharma’s exceptional leadership qualities, saying he deserved a more fitting send-off.

“He was a very respected leader. Even the younger players were eager to play under him. We often heard them praising him for his leadership,” Tiwary concluded.
