Indian selectors to reward Sai Sudharsan with maiden Test call-up for England series: Report

The 23-year-old B Sai Sudharsan, who has been scoring runs, is all set to be rewarded by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee with a maiden Test call-up for the upcoming five matches against England. The Indian men’s cricket team will start the new cycle of the World Test Championship with the tour of England next month. The first game will take place at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 and the next four red-ball matches are scheduled in Birmingham, Lord’s, Manchester and The Oval.

In 11 innings for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025, the southpaw scored 509 runs.

According to PTI, the Indian squad for the Test tour of England will be announced in the third week of May while India A team will be picked next week.

“Sai Sudharsan is likely to make it to the national team, considering his magnificent performances with the bat. He will either play as an opener or bat at the no.3 slot,” a source told news agency.

In domestic cricket, he has been a part of 29 first-class matches and amassed 1957 runs.

No Test captaincy for KL Rahul

According to same report, KL Rahul has no chance of getting the captain’s armband after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket. Rahul is 33 and hasn’t shown consistency in red-ball cricket. Although, he was one of the better performers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, he averages less than 35 in 50 Tests despite playing for 11 years.

It reports are to believed, Shubman Gill will be India’s new Test captain. He will be assisted by the wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, who will get the post of vice-captain. Pant is one of the finest Test batters of Team India in overseas matches and Jasprit Bumrah can’t be considered for the role due to his seniority and injury prone body.
