With the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, speculation is growing that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may soon resume the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, which had been suspended temporarily due to escalating cross-border tensions.

According to media reports and insider sources, the tournament could restart as early as May 13, potentially with the much-anticipated clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)—the fixture that was originally slated before the suspension. While there is no official confirmation yet, early discussions indicate that a resumption may take place within the coming days.

The IPL had been halted for a week after a surge in drone and missile threats triggered nationwide security alerts, affecting several cities across northern India. The situation had also led to the abandonment of the PBKS vs DC match in Dharamsala midway due to a power and security emergency.

However, with the ceasefire agreement reportedly in effect from 5 PM on May 10, cricketing authorities are believed to be realigning logistics to wrap up the season by early June, before preparations for the Asia Cup 2025 ramp up in September.

A significant challenge for the BCCI will be the availability of overseas players, many of whom had begun planning their departures. Talks are reportedly ongoing with agents and international boards to reassess the situation now that tensions have eased.

The BCCI is also expected to announce a revised fixture and logistics plan, depending on how consultations evolve with broadcasters and franchise owners. Ensuring minimal disruption while safeguarding player welfare remains a top priority.

Earlier this week, the BCCI had stated that the suspension of IPL 2025 was a result of comprehensive consultations with security agencies, and that any decision to resume would be based on reassessment of the evolving situation.
