Former West Indies captain and one of the greatest batters, Brian Lara, doesn’t want to see Virat Kohli retiring from Test cricket. According to reports, the 36-year-old has decided to bid adieu to the longest format of the game after mediocre series against Australia. The right-handed batter has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his call and the veteran is not ready to travel to England for the five Test matches.

The big and powerful officials of the Indian Cricket Board have urged him to continue representing the national team in red-ball cricket as the upcoming assignment against the Ben Stokes-led unit is important. One of the famous members of the apex body of the Indian Cricket has been given a task of ensuring that Kohli takes back his decision.

Meanwhile, Lara, who has been a long time admirer of Virat, penned a special note for one of the greatest cricketers of all time.

“Test cricket needs Virat. He is going to be persuaded. He is not going to retire from Test cricket. Virat Kohli is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career,” Brian Lara wrote on Instagram.

Kohli was a walking wicket in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and registered failures in eight innings. His only meaningful knock came in the series opener in Perth, with Kohli amassing a hundred.

Overall, he competed in 123 Test, accumulating 9230 runs at an average of 46.85, laced with 30 hundreds and 31 fifties. He hasn’t been at his best for a long time and recorded low scores against New Zealand before travelling to Australia. His centuries dried up and the pacers and spinners got rid of him without allowing the batter to break free.

Earlier, Ambati Rayudu also wrote a message for Virat. “Virat Kohli please don’t retire.. The Indian team needs you more than ever. You have so much more in the tank. Test cricket will not be the same without you walking out to battle it out for Team India.. Please reconsider,” he wrote on X.
