With the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly begun preparations to resume the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025which was temporarily suspended for a week due to escalating border tensions.
The tournament is now expected to restart with the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)—the fixture that was originally scheduled before the suspension. An official confirmation on dates is awaited, but sources suggest the resumption could happen within days.
The BCCI had earlier paused the tournament amid national security concerns following multiple drone and missile threats across northern Indian cities, leading to an indirect abandonment of a PBKS-DC game in Dharamsala.
However, with India and Pakistan agreeing to a full ceasefire from 5 PM on May 10BCCI is looking to complete the tournament without a significant extension. Officials are keen to wrap up the season by the first week of Juneas any further delay could clash with the Asia Cup scheduled for September.
One pressing challenge remains the availability of overseas playersmany of whom had begun planning their departures during the uncertain pause. While some have flown out or made bookings to return home, franchises are holding onto their home bases and hoping that foreign players may choose to return now that the situation has de-escalated.
As of now, the BCCI is expected to issue a detailed revised schedule in consultation with franchises and broadcasters shortly.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament were yet to be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
