MS Dhoni doesn’t talk about his future during the Indian Premier League matches, and it is the commentators who have often asked him questions on his availability for the next season of the tournament. The veteran has been giving hilarious replies for years while pulling the legs of the former cricketers. However, it was for the first time that Dhoni touched upon the subject of his span as a cricketer after the match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders. He feels fans are coming in larger numbers to support him and CSK, as they are uncertain about his future.
He didn’t say anything directly, but gave a hint that it could be his farewell season in the tournament. The right-handed batter is 43 and is no longer a player who can contribute as a batter, wicket-keeper, or captain.
His former India and Chennai teammate Harbhajan Singh has urged him to add a player of his calibre to the CSK squad before calling it a day.
“‘If he wants to leave, he should bring a player like him, who can hit sixes and puts fear in the minds of the bowlers,” Harbhajan Singh said on the broadcasting channel.
“If Dhoni decides to retire, he should remain with the Chennai Super Kings in some capacity. He has a long association with the franchise, and his legacy will live forever,” he added.
Dhoni had led CSK to five IPL titles, with the last coming in 2023. He had to return as skipper midway through the 18th season as Ruturah Gaikwad was ruled out due to a fractured elbow. The Super Kings are tenth in the points table with just three wins from 12 games.
