For the second day in a row, the sea of yellow at Eden Gardens returned empty-handed after failing to catch a glimpse of their idol, MS Dhoni. Speculations about Dhoni’s health have grown since he has missed both practices leading up to Chennai Super Kings‘ match against Kolkata Knight was ruled out of the ongoing season and Dhoni returned as captain. There were questions about Dhoni’s fitness for Wednesday’s match because of this absence.
Eric Simons, bowling coach of the Chennai Super Kings, has informed supporters that Dhoni will play even though he missed the practice sessions. Simons has confirmed that the 43-year-old is fit to play.
“Yes, he’s expected to play,” Simons said.
“MS is fully aware of his own situation. . He knows where he is. As for his preparation, he puts in a lot of effort at the start of a tournament and then gradually eases off. He just knows when he is prepared and when he’s not,” he said.
This match could potentially be Dhoni’s final appearance at the iconic venue. Even in a season where CSK became the first team to be eliminated from playoff contention, Dhoni’s presence and aura remain unmatched.
Simons praised not only the cricketer but also the person behind the iconic image.
“When people see MS Dhoni, they focus on him as a cricketer, but we see him as an extraordinary individual. His impact on the team, his ability to mentor Rutu and young cricketers, is what truly makes him legendary,” he added.
