Miami, May 5 — Oscar Piastri continued his sensational form in the 2025 Formula 1 season by clinching his third consecutive victory at the Miami Grand Prixdelivering McLaren yet another remarkable one-two finish. Starting from fourth on the grid, the Australian driver showcased flawless execution and overtaking prowess to beat his rivals and move 16 points clear of teammate Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship.
Just two years ago, McLaren was among the slowest teams at the Miami GP. Fast forward to 2025, and they’ve won the same race by more than 35 seconds. Piastri’s statement after the race underscored the team’s turnaround:

Despite starting on pole positionreigning world champion Max Verstappen could only manage fourth placeonce again failing to convert a Miami pole into a win — a streak that has persisted since the circuit’s introduction.
George Russell of Mercedes took thirdalbeit finishing 37.644 seconds behind the leader. Alex Albon (Williams) secured fifth, followed by Some Antonelli (Mercedes), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), and Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) in sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively.
The opening lap delivered immediate excitement as Norris and Verstappen collided at Turn 2forcing Norris briefly off the track and resulting in a three-place drop. No penalties were handed out by race stewards.
Commenting on the incident, Norris said:
Piastri’s racecraft was on full display. He overtook Antonelli on lap 4 and passed Verstappen soon after. Norris recovered and made his move on Verstappen by lap 17sealing a 1-2 for McLaren.
The race saw three Virtual Safety Car (VSC) periodstriggered by retirements from Alpine, Haasand Sauber due to mechanical failures.
