In a dramatic moment during the IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans at Wankhede, Mumbai’s Corbin Bosch had to be substituted due to a concussion after being struck on the helmet. The incident occurred in the 20th over of Mumbai’s innings, when Gujarat pacer Prasidh Krishna delivered a sharp bouncer that Bosch failed to connect with. The ball thudded into his helmet, and although he remained on his feet, the physio was immediately called as the all-rounder appeared visibly shaken.

Bosch had earlier played a crucial cameo, scoring 27 runs off 22 balls, including two big sixes in the final over, helping MI reach a fighting total of 155/8. However, the knock to the head meant he was deemed unfit to continue in the second innings.

Mumbai Indians brought in left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar as a concussion substitute—the first such replacement of the 2025 season. Ashwani was introduced in the 10th over of Gujarat’s chase and made an immediate impact. In his second over, he dismissed a well-set Jos Buttler for 30 (27), caught behind after a successful DRS review.

This marks only the second instance of a concussion substitute being used in IPL history, the first being Vishnu Vinod last season.

At the time of the substitution, Gujarat Titans were 96/2 in 13.2 overs, with a looming rain threat and DLS calculations potentially coming into play. The momentum of the game remains finely balanced, but Ashwani’s breakthrough has given Mumbai a vital edge.
