Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) Mumbai Indians (Mi), captained by Hardik Pandya in the 56th match of 2025, suffered a 3 -wicket defeat against the last ball against the Gujarat Titans (GT), headed by Shubman Gill. This exciting match was played on Tuesday, May 6 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After the match, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya spoke on his team's performance and praised the boys.

In this match, Mumbai Indians scored 155 runs while batting first. The team's batting was not special and only Will Jax (53 runs), Suryakumar Yadav (35 runs) and Corbin Bosch (27 runs) could play a little good innings.

While defending the target, Mumbai made a strong comeback after the rain. Jasprit Bumrah bowled well and brought the team back in the match. But, once again after the rain, when the game started again, Gujarat needed 15 runs in the last over. Deepak Chahar sat in this over and Jerald Koetzi hit a six, which made the match out of Mumbai's hand.

What did Hardik say after the defeat?

After the match, Hardik Pandya said that the team put full emphasis on its behalf. He said, “Yes, this necklace was really difficult. But, I would say that we fought a good fight according to the score on the board. Many times felt that we are getting out of the match, but the whole team continued the effort till the last. It was a very fine game.”

Hardik described his and Deepak Chahar's no-balls as a major reason for defeat. He said, “This pitch was not of 150 runs. We were left behind at least 20-25 runs or if he had batted well, he could score 30 runs. The bowlers bowled in the right area and struggled till the last, for this they credits.”

He further said, “I would not say that we lost by leaving the catch. We were very accurate in the field. But no-balls harmed us. My no-balls and then the last over no-ball, according to me, throwing no-ball in T20 is like a crime. It is often heavily in T20 and still, I am happy that I am happy that everyone tried 120 percent.”

The game stopped due to rain several times in the match, due to which Hardik also looked unhappy. He said, “The ground was not very wet in the first half of the second innings, but after that the ball continued to wet. The rain continued, which made the situation difficult. It is not an ideal situation to play so much intermittently, but in the end we had to play the match and we played.”
