(LSG) suffered an embarrassing defeat by 37 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday. In the 54th league match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, the Punjab team led by Shreyas Iyer gave Rishabh Pant captained Lucknow to Lucknow. However, the visiting team could score only 199 runs in 20 overs and lost 7 wickets.
During this big target, LSG had high expectations from their top four batsmen – Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Nicolas Puran and Rishabh Pant, but the four batsmen could score only 13, 0, 6 and 18 respectively. This defeat against Punjab Kings on Sunday was the LSG's sixth defeat of this season. The team has scored only 10 points in 11 matches so far and remains seventh in the points table.
After this defeat, LSG's hopes of reaching the playoffs have suffered a shock. If they have to make a place in the playoffs of IPL 2025, then they will have to win the remaining three of their matches. However, there is no guarantee that even after winning the three matches, the place will be confirmed in the playoffs, as they will also have to depend on the results of other teams.
Lucknow can only reach a maximum of 16 points, while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has already scored 16 points. Punjab Kings have 15 points in 11 matches. Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans have 14-14 points and both these teams will face face to face in Mumbai on 6 May (Tuesday), which will lead to 16 points in a team's account.
