Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis said that Virat Kohli was rightly given out by the on-field umpire and the third official. He refused to blame the officials, saying rules were followed. “Virat Kohli was out according to the rules, and there was nothing wrong with the decision,” he said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Kohli was surprised by Harshit Rana’s high full toss and gave a simple catch on the bowler. The batter was not convinced and took a DRS. However, he got no respite, and the third umpire upheld the decision.

Kohli reacted angrily and even abused the umpires. He tried to make his teammates believe that he was wrongly declared out. However, he was proved wrong by the technology.

He was standing outside the crease, and the umpires had to consider the actual crease. The dipping ball would have remained below the waistline had the batter stood on or inside the crease.

He scored 18 runs off 7 balls, including 2 sixes and 1 four. The visitors lost the game by 1 run despite sensational batting by Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar.

Former India player Harbhajan Singh, who had earlier declared Kohli not out, finally accepted that the batter was out.

Even Irfan Pathan sided with the umpires.

Faf wanted to win the game for the RCB fans. “We badly wanted to win the game to stay alive in the tournament and for our fans. They have been backing us, but we have disappointed them,” he said.
