CSK batter Dewald Brevis was given LBW by the on-field umpire after a full toss from RCB pacer Lungi Ngidi wrapped on the pads of the batter. However, the ball was missing the stumps, but the batter and his partner Ravindra Jadeja didn’t care to opt for DRS, and when they did, the allotted time frame of 15 seconds was over. Actually, the timer was not shown on the giant screen of the stadium, and the batters had no idea when the time was over. Jadeja kept arguing with the officials, Mohit Krishnadas and Nitin Menon, who told him about the rules.
His appeal was rejected, and the young South African cricketer had to head back to the dugout after failing to open his account. His dismissal played a key role in CSK’s defeat by 2 runs, considering the way Brevis had batted in the previous two games.
Former Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary blamed Jadeja for the DRS blunder. “Ravindra Jadeja and Dewald Brevis wasted time as they kept running. The two didn’t signal for DRS for 22 seconds, which is way higher than the permissible limit. The umpires were helpless after the batters’ mistake. I don’t know why they were running when the umpire had given Brevis out, and the ball was dead,” he said.
“Jadeja is a senior player and has played a lot of Test cricket for India. He should know the ball was dead because the other batter was declared out. Jadeja made a mistake,” he added.
CSK all-rounder scored 77 not out in 45 runs, packed with 8 fours and 2 sixes. However, CSK managed 211/5 in response to RCB’s 213/5, failing for the ninth time in this season. Romario Shepherd of RCB was adjudged the Player of the Match for scoring 53 not out in 14 balls, packed with 6 sixes and 4 fours at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
