Jasprit Bumrah etched his name in the history books during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday (April 27) by setting multiple all-time records.Bumrah was brought into the attack in the third over by skipper Hardik Pandya and made an instant impact as the five-time champions aim to defend a total of 216. Bumrah dismissed in-form Aiden Markram (9) in the first over as the LSG opener miscued a delivery to Naman Dhir at deep backwards square.
Jasprit Bumrah Goes Past Lasith Malinga
With the dismissal, Bumrah etched his name in the history books and broke a long-standing record of Lasith Malinga to become the highest wicket-taker for MI in IPL history. Bumrah now has 171 wickets to his name in for the five-time champion in the league. Malinga had held the record since the 2011 season, before which Harbhajan Singh and Dwayne Bravo held the unique feat.

Bumrah has also set the record for the most wickets by a pacer in IPL history, playing for one team.

As a result, Bumrah also became the first player to take more than 170 wickets for the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the only pacer to do the same for a single team.
The 31-year-old is now also the third-highest wicket-taker among pacers in IPL history behind Bhuvneshwar (190) and Dwayne Bravo (183). Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2013 for MI and has remained part of the franchise ever since. He was re-signed by the franchise for Rs. 1.2 crore before being retained ahead of the 2018, 2022, and 2025 Mega Auction. He is the highest-paid player in the MI Squad this year with a salary of Rs. 18 crore.
