Multan Sultans vs Lahore Qalandars, PSL 2025: Under the sparkling lights of Lahore's iconic Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore Qalandars showcased a pulsating run chase to edge past Multan Sultans by five wickets, clinching victory with an over to spare in the 16th match of the PSL 2025.
It was Daryl Mitchell's night to remember, as the Kiwi all-rounder delivered a stunning all-round performance, steering Qalandars home with a brilliant 64 off 38 balls and claiming a crucial wicket earlier in the evening.
Multan Sultans, sent in to bat first, posted a competitive total of 185 for 3 on the back of a classy unbeaten 76 by skipper Mohammad Rizwan and a breezy half-century from Kamran Ghulam.
However, the total proved insufficient in the face of Qalandars' firepower, as the home side chased down the target in just 19 overs, finishing at 186 for 5.Match Summery
Match Highlights
Rizwan and Ghulam Lay a Solid Foundation
The Sultans' innings was a tale of controlled aggression and composure. Yasir Khan provided early impetus, hammering a lively 24 off 18 balls before perishing to Haris Rauf, caught smartly by Sikandar Raza. From there, Rizwan anchored the innings masterfully, striking six fours and three sixes in his 48-ball knock.
Usman Khan chipped in with a sprightly 18, but it was Rizwan's partnership with Kamran Ghulam that truly lifted Multan. Ghulam's sparkling 52 off 31 balls, decorated with two fours and four towering sixes, injected late momentum. Their unbeaten fourth-wicket stand guided the Sultans to a strong finish at 185/3, setting up what looked a testing chase.
Qalandars' bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs. Tom Curran was the pick, with tidy figures of 1 for 24 off four overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi kept things tight early on, conceding only 25 runs from his four overs, but wickets proved elusive, with Mitchell the only other successful bowler, claiming the scalp of Usman Khan.
Fakhar's Flourish and Mitchell's Magic
Chasing 186, Lahore's start was nervy. Mohammad Naeem fell cheaply to Josh Little, but veteran Fakhar Zaman was in typically aggressive mood. He carved 28 off 22 deliveries, peppering the boundary thrice and clearing it twice, before nicking one off Mohammad Hasnain.
Abdullah Shafique looked in fluent touch, stroking two sixes and two fours en route to 34. Yet, when he and Sam Billings departed in quick succession - the Englishman falling for a duck off just three balls - Multan sniffed an opening.
Enter Daryl Mitchell. Unfazed by the climbing required rate and a restless Lahore crowd, Mitchell played with characteristic calm and control. He rotated the strike intelligently and unleashed devastating blows whenever the opportunity arose. His 64 came off just 38 balls, laced with four fours and four sixes.
When Mitchell reached his fifty with a mighty six his third maximum Lahore's dugout erupted. By the time he was bowled by Akif Javed in the 19th over, the job was virtually done. Sikandar Raza, who played a fiery supporting role with an unbeaten 40 off 21 balls, fittingly hit the winning runs.
