Rahul Tewatia revealed how he countered the threat of Mitchell Starc when the Gujarat Titans faced the Delhi Capitals in Match No. 35 of the Indian Premier League 2025 on Saturday, April 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Tewatia stayed not out on 11 off three balls as the Titans .

With 10 runs needed off the last over, all three results were on the cards. But Tewatia slog swept Starc for a six, after which an inside edge helped him collect a boundary and the winning runs. Tewatia said that knowing that Starc would bowl yorkers, he planned to go after him.

"No, it wasn't like he was definitely going to bowl only yorkers. But yes, judging by how he bowled yorkers in the last match and how they managed to defend those runs, there was definitely a sense that he would back his yorkers again. But my idea was that I would watch the ball and play accordingly; whether it's a length delivery or a yorker, my plan was to go after it," Tewatia said in the post-match press conference.

Tewatia also said how Jos Buttler didn't care about his own century and asked him to go for his shots in the last over.

Buttler didn't get strike in the last over, but won the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 97-run knock off 54 balls with 11 fours and four sixes.

"He was playing with me for the first time here at GT. So he told me just one thing when we needed 10 runs in the last over - 'Don't think about my hundred, just focus on your plan.' He knew my mindset and told me, 'I know you are very clear in your mind, so whatever your plan is, just execute it. Don't look at my hundred, look at winning the match'," Tewatia added.

With the win, the Titans reclaimed their top spot in the table with 10 points and a net run rate of +0.984 thanks to wins in five out of seven games.
