Pace sensation Mayank Yadav has officially rejoined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad after an extended rehabilitation at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE). The 22-year-old, who has been out of action since October 2024 due to a back injury followed by a toe niggle, linked up with the team on Tuesday night ahead of their next fixture against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on Saturday.
Mayank, whose last competitive appearance came during a T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, has now received clearance from the BCCI medical team. However, the LSG support staff, led by head physio Ashish Kaushik, will conduct their own fitness assessment before making a decision on his availability for the upcoming game.
The young fast bowler has had a troubled injury history, suffering as many as five stress fractures over the past two years. Even during the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he featured in only four matches before a side strain cut short his campaign.
LSG have already been hit hard by injuries this season, with Mohsin Khan ruled out and both Akash Deep and Avesh Khan joining the squad late. The team had to rope in Shardul Thakur as a replacement, who has since led the pace attack. Mayank’s return will bring a much-needed boost to the seam department as LSG look to solidify their position in the top half of the points table. The team is currently fifth with four wins from seven matches.
LSG will hope Mayank’s pace and aggression can help power them through a tough second half of the season.
