The T20 World Cup is now less than two months away. As the IPL 2024 season unfolds, Indian cricketers are vying for spots in the national team. The deadline for revealing the squad is May 1 and the BCCI will soin make the announcement. While several players are assured of their positions, the competition is fierce for a few remaining slots.
Rinku Singh has been one of India’s top finishers in the shortest format since his international debut, making him a frontrunner to keep his spot in the team. However, he has struggled to find opportunities with KKR this season, managing only modest returns of 23, 5, 26, 9 and 20 in his five innings so far. Rinku is still looking to make a major impact in IPL 2024 and will be aiming to regain his best form.
Ahead of the team selection for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Sanjay Manjrekar shared his views on Rinku Singh and expressed hope that the selectors will not overlook him. In his interview with Firstpost, Manjrekar said Rinku deserves a spot in the World Cup squad.
“Rinku Singh deserves more opportunities to showcase his talent. Despite his limited chances so far, he has shown impressive consistency and range whenever he has played. I hope selectors recognize his potential and consider him for the Indian team, even with all the big name players competing for spots. Singh has the ability to immediately step up and contribute at the highest level. He shouldn’t be forgotten,” Sanjay Manjrekar said.
Rinku made his T20I debut for India against Ireland in 2023. In 15 matches, the left-handed batter has scored 356 runs at a strike rate of 176.23. With a knack for finishing games, he has proven to be a vital member of the team. Given his impactful performances, Rinku seems certain to retain his place in India’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
