Former England captain Michael Vaughan has seen enough of Shoaib Bashir to tag him as the next Ravichandran Ashwin.

Shoaib Bashir has emerged as a top-notch bowler for England in this ongoing Test series against India.

The youngster has made a superb start to his international career, picking up 12 wickets in his first two Test matches.

The 20-year-old Somerset spinner picked up 4 wickets on his debut in Vizag, and then picked up eight more wickets in the Ranchi Test. Bashir also managed his maiden fifer in the Ranchi Test and was impressive throughout the match. And Michael Vaughan believes the English team has unearthed a future superstar, who can reach the heights of Indian spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin. "It's been a fantastic week for English cricket. One of the great weeks, celebrating another world-class superstar that we've unearthed, Shoaib Bashir. That's what we're celebrating. Second Test match, eight wickets, he's the new Ravi Ashwin, and we've unearthed him. So, we're celebrating a new superstar in English cricket," Vaughan told Club Prairie Fire's YouTube channel recently. Although it is too early to compare Bashir with someone such as Ashwin, the ex-England captain thinks the youngster can make a name for himself in the coming years. Despite Bashir's valiant efforts, the visitors have already relinquished the series with a 3-1 scoreline. The final Test in Dharamshala is still important due to the WTC table and Vaughan predicts England will win the match. "I think it's going to be a fresh one in Dharamsala, so I expect England to win. They've been the better team in the series, as they were in the Ashes. If you go session by session, England have looked a better team. I'm saying looked a better team, but we don't play series now to win them," he added. The final Test of the five-match series starts on March 7 in Dharamshala. Rohit Sharma's men are currently 2nd in the WTC 2023-25 table, whereas England are second from the bottom.
