Punjab Kings' new batting star Priyansh Arya illuminated the IPL 2025 arena with a dreamlike 103 off mere 42 balls against Chennai Super Kings.

The 24-year-old opener hammered seven fours and six sixes during his knock, being the quickest uncapped Indian to hit a century in IPL history.

An Explosive IPL Debut

Prior to this scorching ton, Priyansh had made a splash in his IPL debut for PBKS against Gujarat Titans. Opening the batting at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, he hammered 47 off 23 balls with a strike rate of 204.35. His innings consisted of seven boundaries and two sixes, giving the tone for the innings with a boundary against Mohammed Siraj.

In spite of a few fortunate breaks, including a fall by Rashid Khan, Priyansh impressed with classy shots such as a square drive for six off Arshad Khan and an on-drive off Kagiso Rabada. Although he was out after the powerplay, his initial contribution had already pumped up his team.

From Delhi Streets to IPL Spotlight

Priyansh’s cricketing background has its roots on the streets of Ashok Vihar . With a family background of teachers, his love for the game found him training with coach Sanjay Bharadwaj’s academy in Bharat Nagar.

Bharadwaj groomed his talent, going to the extent of even letting Priyansh watch Gautam Gambhir in the nets.

Priyansh idolized Gambhir as a spin-bowling prodigy. When Gambhir himself presented him once with a complete cricket kit, the admiration got intensified.

Strong Domestic Performer

Arya started playing for Delhi in T20s by 2021 and graduated gradually through robust domestic performances. During the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), he struck consecutive fifties against powerhouse teams like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

He topped Delhi's run charts in 2023 and again in 2024, scoring 325 runs in nine games at a strike rate of 176.63 in SMAT 2024. His explosive batting style, despite a smaller frame, has drawn comparisons to Chris Gayle.

IPL Selection After Delhi Premier League Brilliance

Arya’s brilliant performance in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) must have cemented his IPL contract. He was the highest scorer in the inaugural edition of the league with 608 runs, with two centuries under his belt. Among the highlights of the season was his 286-run alliance with best friend Ayush Badoni-now an LSG player-as their team South Delhi Superstarz scored a 300-plus.

His reliability and attacking approach got him a ₹3.8 crore IPL deal in the 2025 mega auction.

India Aspirations Beyond T20s

Though Arya is doing well in the T20 format, he has something bigger on his mind. “I want to be an all-format player for India,” he has said, emphasizing his determination to develop as a complete cricketer. His reliability and attacking approach got him a ₹3.8 crore IPL deal in the 2025 mega auction.
