Royal Challengers Bengaluru have registered their first victory at Wankhede Stadium after a gap of 10 years by beating Mumbai Indians by 12 runs on 8 April.
Speaking of the match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first. Phil Salt and Virat Kohli opened the innings for RCB while Boult opened the innings for Mumbai Indians.
In the second delivery of the inning, Boult dismissed Salt for four runs and made an early breakthrough. But Virat Kohli and Padikkal on the other hand, made an aggressive start and dragged RCB to score 73 runs at the end of first powerplay.
In the 9th over, Vignesh Puthur dismissed Padikkal for 37 runs and broke the partnership. Though RCB lost their well-settled batter at a crucial stage of the game, Virat Kohli on the other hand, continued to dominate the Mumbai bowlers and scored 67 runs before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya in the first delivery of the 15th over.
In the same over, Hardik Pandya dismissed Liam Livingstone for duck and loaded pressure over the RCB batters. But Jitesh Sharma and Rajat Patidar made an outstanding inning and dragged RCB to post 221 runs for five wickets at the end of 20 overs.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton opened the innings for Mumbai Indians, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar opened the bowling attack for RCB.
In the fourth delivery of the second over, Yash Dayal dismissed Rohit Sharma for 17 runs and made an early breakthrough. Hazlewood in the fourth over dismissed Rickelton for 17 runs and loaded pressure over the Mumbai Indians’ batting line up.
At the end of the first powerplay, Mumbai Indians managed to score 54 runs for two wickets. While Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav were expected to build a match-winning partnership but Krunal Pandya in the 10th over dismissed Jacks for 22 runs and compressed Mumbai Indians for 84 runs at the end of 10 overs.
In the very next over, Yash Dayal dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for 28 runs and made a massive turn for the Mumbai Indians. Following SKY’s dismissal, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma started to build a partnership and dragged Mumbai to score 157 runs at the end of 15 overs.
While the duo gave some confidence to the Mumbai fans, Bhuvneshwar dismissed Tilak Varma for 56 runs and broke the partnership. With Hardik Pandya on the crease, Mumbai Indians still had some hope of winning the game but Hazlewood in the 19th over dismissed Pandya for 42 runs and scattered Mumbai’s dream of winning the game.
With 19 runs needed off the final over, Krunal Pandya bagged a couple of wickets and spelled just six runs. At the end of 20 overs, MI managed to score 209 runs for nine wickets and fell 12 runs short.
