Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) head coach Ricky Ponting has made a big statement about the 'Impact Player' rule implemented in the Indian Premier League. This rule was first implemented in 2023, in which at any time during the match, a player can be brought from the bench and included in place of a player on the ground.

It has remained a matter of great debate since the introduction of this rule. Many cricket experts have demanded the removal of this rule, they believe that it has become very high-scoring.

Talking about this subject, Ricky Ponting also expressed his opinion and said that this rule has been mainly brought to woo the TV audience.

He said in a conversation with The Indian Express, “As a coach, I am not in favor of this rule, but will say yes as a viewer.

Ponting further said, “The impact player rules are for this reason, there is no doubt. Even though it is said that it gives another Indian player a chance, but if that player is really good, he would have already been in the playing XI. As a coach, I would like to put my best element on the field as a coach, but I understand the other side.”
