Chennai Super Kings were no match for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2024. The defending champions lost their seventh game of the season by eight wickets despite posting 176 in 20 overs. KL Rahul (82) and Quinton de Kock (54) added 134 runs for the opening wicket to put Chennai out of the contest.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed unhappiness with how his bowlers performed in the powerplay overs. The opening batter thinks it is the team’s weakest link, and they will have to work on it.

“We were 10-15 runs short. The pitch was slow during our batting, but it changed completely in the second innings due to dew. The batting became a lot easier.

“We have failed to take wickets in the powerplay overs and this is one area where we need an improvement. On venues where we are 10 runs short, the only way to win a game is by taking wickets in the powerplay. We will discuss about it to rectify the shortcomings before our next match,” Ruturaj Gaikwad said.

Ravindra Jadeja scored fifty-plus while Dhoni slammed 28 runs off nine balls to take the total to 176/6 in 20 overs, but it failed to challenge the hosts. Chennai has 8 points from 7 games in the 17th season.

Meanwhile, Rahul was named the Player of the Match for his batting and wicket-taking. His team was found guilty of slow over rate offence. On the other hand, Gaikwad’s CSK were two overs short when the allotted time got over.
