Indian team has seen great success under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, as they have won recent ICC white-ball events i.e. the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy 2025. Even though he has confirmed that he is going to play the 50-over format, there is no possibility on whether he will play in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
On that topic, former Indian World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has shared his suggestion regarding the captaincy of the Men in Blue. Actually, Kapil's player of choice for the next white-ball captain is not a captain in any international format of the game.
'To me, Hardik Pandya is my white ball captain. There are many contenders for the post but Pandya is my choice,' Kapil Dev said in an interview.
'Pandya is relatively young and can build a team around him for the next ICC events,' Kapil added.
Hardik Pandya was India's vice-captain in the T20I and ODI format when Rahul Dravid was the head coach of the team. However, as Gautam Gambhir was appointed the new head coach, Pandya's role was taken off from him, as his fitness and availability were taken as points of concern.
