Jasprit Bumrah has rejoined Mumbai Indians ahead of their IPL clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7, but the star pacer is unlikely to make the playing XI.
Bumrah had been undergoing rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after undergoing back surgery.
He has been a cornerstone of the MI’s bowling attack since making his IPL debut in 2013. Over the years, he has played 133 matches for the franchise, picking up 165 wickets. The only season he missed was in 2023 due to a back injury.
His latest injury occurred on January 4, during the second day of the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Sydney. As a result, he was ruled out of the Champions Trophy, which India went on to win last month. This was the first setback to his back since undergoing surgery in March 2023.
Ahead of the last mega auction, Mumbai Indians retained Bumrah for Rs 18 crore, reaffirming its faith in its star pacer. MI is currently seventh in the points table with just a solitary win from four matches.
