Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari has given a big statement about MS Dhoni. He said that Chennai Super Kings veteran Dhoni should have retired only after winning the IPL Trophy in 2023. This statement was made by Tiwari after another slow performance of Dhoni in IPL 2025. Tiwari believes that now Chennai captain Ruturaj Gaikwad should take a big decision regarding Dhoni's future.

On Saturday, Dhoni came to bat at number seven in a match against Delhi Capitals at Chennai's home ground. He scored an unbeaten 30 in 26 balls, including only one four and a six. He shared an 84 -run partnership for the sixth wicket with Vijay Shankar, but the team fell 25 runs from the target. This was Chennai's third defeat in four this season and second consecutive defeat at home

It would have been nice to retire only in 2023

Talking to Cricbuzz, Tiwari said that Dhoni's image is becoming blurred in the last two years. He said, “If I feel a bit strict then forgive, but Dhoni should have retired only after the IPL victory in 2023. He knows all the respect he has earned, but now the fans have not seen the same style for the last two years. Fans of Chennai are also expressing grief.”

Manoj Tiwari raised sharp questions

Manoj Tiwari, who himself has played in the IPL with Dhoni in the Rising Pune Supergiants team, also questioned the statement of Stephen Fleming. Fleming had said that Dhoni had a knee surgery, and he could no longer bat more than 10 overs, so his batting position is not being decided.

To this Tiwari said, “If you can do 20 overs fielding, including repeated bending, diving, runout, then how is the knee pain in the batting? All the decisions of the team are happening around them but the team is not getting any benefit. I think now Chennai should take a strong decision and Dhoni should explain that the time has come for the retirement.
