Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar compared Glenn Maxwell to Halley’s Comet. He mocked the Punjab Kings’ all-rounder for his inconsistency in cricket. Maxwell’s career has been marred by a long list of low scores and a few individual brilliance since his debut.

Despite finding franchises in the Indian Premier League, the Australian star has failed to justify their trust. He blew hot and cold for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during his tenure and even took a break from the proceedings midway through the 17th season. The decision-makers didn’t retain him before the mega auction.

Legendary Australia captain Ricky Ponting joined Punjab Kings as a head coach for the 18th edition, and he convinced the Punjab owners to invest INR 4.2 crore in him. The result hasn’t been satisfactory, with the batter getting dismissed without troubling the scorers in his team’s first match against Gujarat Titans. In the second clash with Lucknow Super Giants, he didn’t get a chance to bat. However, he has taken a wicket each in the two matches.

Meanwhile, Manjrekar is not convinced with Maxwell’s batting style. “Halley’s Comet is seen from Earth after 75 years. It was last seen in 1986, and it will now be spotted in 2061. Glenn Maxwell is Halley’s Comet’s of cricket,” he said.

“However, you can’t keep him out of the match thinking he can score runs in any match. It has been 74 innings since he fired with the bat, and the number would touch 75 if we take the match against Rajasthan Royals into account. So, there is a possibility of him scoring runs in the 75th innings,” he said.
