Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a thrilling 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-scoring contest of IPL 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Despite a valiant effort from Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, MI fell short in their chase of 204.

LSG posts a competitive total

Asked to bat first, LSG rode on a powerful start from Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Marsh blazed his way to 60 off 31 balls, smashing nine fours and two sixes, while Markram contributed 53 off 38 with four sixes. Their 91-run stand set the tone for a big total.

Middle-order contributions from Ayush Badoni (30 off 19) and David Miller (27 off 14) helped LSG post 203/8 despite Mumbai’s Hardik Pandya wreaking havoc with the ball, claiming an impressive 5/36 in his four overs. Trent Boult, Ashwani Kumar and Vignesh Puthur chipped in with a wicket each, but LSG’s batters kept the scoreboard ticking.

MI falters in chase despite Surya-Hardik effort

Chasing 204, Mumbai suffered early blows as openers Will Jacks (5) and Ryan Rickelton (10) departed cheaply. However, Naman Dhir played an explosive 46 off 24 balls, smashing four fours and three sixes, to keep MI in the hunt.

Suryakumar Yadav then anchored the innings with a brilliant 67 off 43, striking nine boundaries and a six. But with wickets tumbling around him, the pressure mounted. Pandya, known for his finishing prowess, attempted to take MI over the line with a quick 28 off 16, but he failed to take his team over the finish line.

LSG’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Digvesh Singh (1/21), Avesh Khan (1/40), Shardul Thakur (1/40), and Akash Deep (1/46), kept MI in check, eventually restricting them to 191/5 in their 20 overs.
