What Are RCB’s IPL 2024 Playoffs Qualification Scenarios? Will Virat Kohli And Co Make To Top Four? EXPLAINED
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are sitting at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table with just one win from seven games.
Former RCB captain Virat Kohli is the Orange Cap holder at present in IPL 2024.
New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) bid for their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) went for a toss as the Faf du Plessis-led side languish at the bottom of the points table with just one win out of seven matches in the ongoing edition. Their latest loss came against Sunrisers Hyderabad, who posted a record 287/3 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to post the highest team total in the history of the tournament. On Sunday, RCB will be facing second-placed Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in a do-or-die encounter. Although, it would be too early to decide on RCB’s fate for the playoffs, but it isn’t good either.
RCB’s IPL 2024 Playoff Qualification Scenarios
The only thing that is on RCB’s disposal is to win all their remaining seven games. With just two points in their kitty, winning their remaining seven games would take them to 16 points in the points table.
16 points is the benchmark for any team to qualify for the last four in IPL. Last year, it was Mumbai Indians who qualified for the playoffs with 16 points. So RCB can still hope for a turnaround in IPL 2024 and the journey will start in Kolkata on April 21.
However, just winning all their remaining games won’t help RCB as they also have to pray other top teams lose some of the games. As of April 19, the top four spots are being occupied by Rajasthan Royals,KKR, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
What RCB Need To Do For IPL 2024 Playoffs Qualification?
The first and foremost thing that RCB need to do is that sort out their bowling. In all the seven matches, RCB bowlers haven’t been able to take all the wickets of the oppositions. Rather, they leaked 1394 runs in seven matches, which is probably the most by any team in the competition this edition.
India pacer Mohammed Siraj looked out of sorts while the likes of Reece Topley, Lockie Ferguson, Vyshak Vijay Kumar, Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph performed in bits and pieces. RCB bowlers need to pull up their socks and need to take wickets, especially in the powerplay.
One things is for sure that RCB are over-reliant on Virat Kohli at the top. The former skipper is on top of the list for Orange Cap with 361 runs from seven games. Besides Kohli, household names like Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar need to fire with the bat. Dinesh Karthik had been consistent in his role of a finisher but he also needs support from top order
