Digvesh Singh has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and received one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2025 match against Punjab Super Kings.

Digvesh was seen mimicking the famous ‘notebook celebration’ after dismissing Arya who had scored just eight runs in the third over as PBKS were chasing a target of 172 runs.

The IPL issued a statement late Tuesday addressing the incident saying “Digvesh Singh Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Punjab Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday.”

Punjab Kings emerged as winners in the match successfully chasing down the target of 172 runs with 22 balls to spare and secured a 8-wicket victory.

Prabhsimran Singh lead the chase with a solid knock of 69 runs off 34 balls, including three boundaries and three sixes.

Lucknow Super Giants who batted first posted a total of 171 runs off 7 wickets, which proved insufficient against Punjab’s strong batting performance.

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has been disappointed on Digvesh Singh’s absence. “I can understand the celebration if the wicket comes after the batsman hit a boundary or a six in the previous ball.”

“As a bowler, you’ve got six deliveries. So if you got five dot balls and get a wicket on the sixth, then you do something like that, it’s not understandable. But all these gestures mean that you don’t expect to get a wicket. And now that you’ve got a wicket, you’re trying to show off,” concluded Sunil Gavaskar.

Despite his controversial celebration, Digvesh was the standout performer in LSG’s side. He claimed 2 wickets for 30 runs in four over spell. LSG has slipped to 6th position in the IPL 2025 points table after Tuesday’s defeat.

Lucknow Super Giants will play their next match against Mumbai Indians on April 04 at Ekana Cricket Stadium B Ground.
