It's a great idea to recognise our achievements: Michael Holding

Michael Holding, the former fast bowler, who was a part of the West Indies squad that won the ODI World Cup in 1979, stated that he is definitely on board with the idea of commemorative celebrations of the title triumph. He was quoted as saying, 'I think it's a great idea. I obviously don't know the details of the celebrations but it's a great idea to recognise our achievements.'

'Everyone else shows pride in their achievements and don't wait on others to shine a light on them. We need to write our own history and celebrate our achievements,' Holding added. Moreover, CWI President, Dr Kishore Shallow also confirmed what the CEO of the governing body had said earlier, 'This year we celebrate our 50th anniversary of the first World Cup success we had in 1975. We are in advanced planning stages... just a few things left to finalize.'

Moreover, 12 of the 14 players who won the ODI World Cup 1975, including some of the greatest names Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards, Rohan Kanhai, and Andy Roberts, like are still alive, while Roy Fredericks and Keith Boyce had passed away earlier.
