Even though Punjab Kings had to face defeat by 9 runs in the IPL 2024 match played against Mumbai Indians in Mullanpur on Thursday (18 April), Ashutosh Sharma Won everyone's hearts with his stormy batting.

Ashutosh, who came to bat at number eight, played a stormy innings of 61 runs with the help of 2 fours and 7 sixes in 28 balls at a strike rate of 217.86. Due to which the Punjab team, which had lost 7 wickets for 111 runs, reached 183 runs.

During this innings, Ashutosh played an amazing shot on the ball of Mumbai Indians' best bowler Jasprit Bumrah, the video of which is going viral on social media.

On the fifth ball of the 13th over of the innings, Ashutosh hit a six while sweeping Bumrah. Bumrah missed the yorker and Ashutosh shuffled and hit a sweep shot and sent the ball over backward square leg to the boundary.

This shot came from Ashutosh's bat when Bumrah had dismissed his fellow batsman Shashank Singh on the very first ball of this over and Punjab had lost 7 wickets.

After debut, Ashutosh has scored 156 runs in 4 innings at an average of 52 and strike rate of 205.26. He has become the highest run scorer in a single season of IPL while batting at number 8 or below. Earlier in IPL 2023, Rashid Khan of Gujarat Titans had scored 115 runs.

Apart from this, Ashutosh has become the sixth player who has scored a half-century while batting at number 8 or below in IPL.

It is noteworthy that after being invited to bat first, Mumbai scored 192 runs at the loss of 7 wickets on the basis of the innings of Suryakumar Yadav (78), Rohit Sharma (36) and Tilak Verma (34 not out).
