NZ vs PAK Match Report: New Zealand delivered a commanding performance to outclass Pakistan by 73 runs in the first ODI of the series at McLean Park, Napier.

Mark Chapman stole the show with a scintillating century, guiding the hosts to a formidable total of 344/9. Despite a spirited knock from Babar Azam, Pakistan fell short, getting bowled out for 271 in 44.1 overs.

Chapman's Fireworks Power New Zealand to 344/9

After being put into bat, New Zealand faced early setbacks, losing three wickets inside the first 13 overs. Will Young (10), Nick Kelly (15), and Henry Nicholls (11) departed cheaply as Pakistan's pacers Naseem Shah and Akif Javed made early inroads.

However, Mark Chapman turned the game around with a breathtaking 132 off 111 balls, smashing 13 fours and six sixes in an innings full of flair and control.

Daryl Mitchell provided excellent support with a steady 76 off 84, ensuring New Zealand rebuilt from their early losses. Muhammad Abbas' cameo of 52* from 26 balls added late fireworks, pushing the total past the 340-run mark. Pakistan's bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Akif Javed (2/55) and Irfan Khan (3/51) picking up crucial wickets, but conceding runs at an alarming rate.

Pakistan Falter Despite Babar Azam's Resistance

Chasing a daunting target, Pakistan got off to a decent start, with Abdullah Shafique (36) and Usman Khan (39) putting up an 83-run opening stand. However, New Zealand struck back swiftly, removing both openers in quick succession. Captain Babar Azam looked in sublime touch, anchoring the innings with a fluent 78 off 83 balls, but he lacked support from the middle order.

Mohammad Rizwan (30) and Salman Agha (58) attempted to keep the chase alive, but regular wickets hampered Pakistan's momentum.

Once Babar fell in the 39th over, the visitors collapsed, losing their last seven wickets for just 22 runs. Nathan Smith (4/60) and Jacob Duffy (3/57) ripped through the lower order, sealing a comprehensive victory for New Zealand.

Player of the Match - Mark Chapman

Unsurprisingly, Mark Chapman was named Player of the Match for his match-defining knock. Reflecting on his innings, Chapman said, "It was great to contribute to the team's success. The pitch was good for batting, and I just backed myself to play my shots."

With this dominant win, New Zealand take a 1-0 lead in the series, leaving Pakistan with plenty to ponder ahead of the second ODI.With this dominant win, New Zealand take a 1-0 lead in the series, leaving Pakistan with plenty to ponder ahead of the second ODI.
