This new rule will come into force from the first match on 22 March 2025 (IPL 2025). Before this rule, super overs were played until the winner's decision was reached.

It used to take a lot of time. But now the number of overs has been limited. The result of the match has been made mandatory within an hour of the match tie, so that it does not spoil much time.

Discussion with captains about the rule

According to Cricbuzz report, the BCCI had held a meeting with the captains of all the teams on this rule, after which all the IPL (IPL 2025) franchise was informed about it, stating that it is mandatory to decide the winner within an hour of ending the match.

The super over started within 10 minutes of the match tie. At the same time, the second super over should start within 5 minutes in the event of the first super over tie. If the match referee feels that one hour time limit is going to end, then they will inform the captains of both teams about it and information will also be shared which will be the last super over. The warnings to the players during the match and the extra time will be counted in the super over itself.

This team will bat first in super over

The special thing is that according to this new rule, the team which has batted later will take the field to bat first in the super over.

At the same time, during the super over, both teams will also be allowed to appeal on the wrong decision once. Apart from this, the captaincy of the fielding team will also be allowed to choose the ball. He can select one of the balls used in the match, while the new ball will not be used in the super over. At the same time, the fielding captain can also choose this bowling end.
