Delhi: The Impact Player rule is being used in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Some teams seem to be benefiting from this in this year's IPL. Meanwhile, when former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma was asked his opinion in this regard, he said that he is not a fan of the impact player rule. Rohit said that cricket is a game of eleven players, not twelve players. Sharma said that because of this rule Washington Sundar and Shivam Dubey are not getting a chance to bowl.

36-year-old Rohit Sharma said, “There is a rule to take 'impact players' as influential players in IPL. I don't like this rule. I think this rule is unfair for all-rounders. Actually, cricket is a game of 11 players all over the world. In cricket the twelfth player is brought in, so by implementing this rule, it only entertains the spectators, but you take away a lot of fun from the game, if you think about it in the context of cricket, I Seems like it's kind of unfair. “For many Indian players, be it Shivam Dubey or Washington Sundar, they are not able to bowl due to this rule, which can be a matter of concern for me and Team India.”

The Indian legend further said, “I can't say what can be done about this rule, but one thing I can say is that the twelfth player is brought in just for fun. Depending on the need of the game, you take that player in the team as a substitute. If you bat well and score more runs, you give the bowler a place in the team as a substitute, so you have the option of playing six to seven bowlers in the team. It has been seen in many matches that there is no need for this.”

It is known that this rule allows teams to use 12 players instead of 11 in a match. It was first used by BCCI in the domestic circuit in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022.
