The KKR vs LSG clash on April 06 is likely to be rescheduled due to security concerns. As teams preparing for the IPL 2025 season, the Ram Navmi and KKR vs LSG clash falls on the same date which causes trouble.
The Cricket Association of Bengal president Snehahish Ganguly revealed that the Kolkata police might not be able to provide security for the match due to Ram Navami.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari announced that over 20,000 processions will take place across West Bengal on Ram Navami, leading to high security requirements across the state.
It is reported that CAB president Snehasish Ganguly held two rounds of discussions with the city police on March 18, where the police confirmed that they would not be able to provide cover for the match at Eden Gardens.
“They have categorically said they won’t be able to provide adequate security. If there’s no police protection, accommodating a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible,” said Snehasish Ganguly.
“We have informed the BCCI, and there is still time to take a final call. Even last year, a scheduled IPL match on Ram Navami had to be rescheduled,” he added.
Changing the match venue or rescheduling is complex, given the enthusiasm surrounding the KKR vs Lucknow fixture.
The schedule conflict is not new as the two matches of last year’s fixtures has been rescheduled due to Ram Navmi Celebrations – Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals on April 17 has be preponded and played on April 16.
Meanwhile April 16th match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat were played on April 17. Recently, the franchise has announced the Ajinkya Rahane as KKR’s captain with Venkatesh Iyer to be his deputy for IPL 2025 season.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ will play their first match of the campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22 at Eden Gardens.
