Nothing is going right for Umran Malik, who has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2025. After going unsold in the first two rounds of the mega auction, the defending champions and three-time winners, Kolkata Knight Riders, bought him for the 18th season. However, he suffered an injury and will not be able to compete in the tournament. Chetan Sakariya, who has played for Rajasthan Royals in the past, has been signed as a replacement player for the Jammu & Kashmir-based speedster.
Umran was once the fastest Indian bowler and impressed everyone with his performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022. The selectors fast-tracked him and gave him chances in T20Is and ODIs. However, Umran failed to take wickets, and his express pace became his weakness in international cricket as the batters used it to their advantage. Umran’s line and length were wayward, and he lost his place in the national team after playing in 10 ODIs (13 wickets) and 8 T20Is (11 wickets).
He has been battling fitness issues for a long time and missed a lot of domestic cricket. In 26 IPL matches, he has taken 29 wickets at an average of 26.62 and an economy of 9.40.
Chetan Sakariya is also an injury-prone bowler who has been out of action for a long time. He has played 19 matches in the league and taken 20 wickets at an average of 29.95 and an economy of 8.44. The 27-year-old has been a part of two T20Is and 1 ODI for the Men in Blue.
