Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Dwayne Bravo acknowledged reaching out to Gautam Gambhir for advice ahead of IPL 2025. Gambhir, who was KKR’s mentor during their triumphant IPL 2024 campaign under captain Shreyas Iyer, left the role after the season to take on the responsibility of India’s head coach. Bravo was subsequently appointed as Gambhir’s successor.
While Bravo noted that both he and Gambhir have distinct leadership styles, he recognised the importance of learning from Gambhir’s successful tenure.
“It would be disrespectful not to learn from the positive aspects of what Gambhir did last season, Though we lost a few players, I think it’s important to adhere to the successful formula established. Of course, I messaged him a few times for some tips.
“I have my approach, and he has his, but we both have been successful in our own ways. I will certainly be leaning on these experienced players as we aim to follow the winning formula.”
KKR will be captained by Ajinkya Rahane in IPL 2025, following Shreyas Iyer’s decision to enter the auction, where he was acquired by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for INR 26.75 crores. Venkatesh Iyer will serve as Rahane’s deputy.
Rahane, who has previously represented KKR in the 2022 season, scored 133 runs in seven innings.
