When Irfan Pathan made his Test debut against Australia in 2003, he didn’t know what would happen. His all-around skills, along with his looks, made him a fan favorite. He became the latest crush of the girls, and the Baroda-based player became one of the most famous cricketers worldwide.
Millions still follow him because of his cricket acumen, not his looks. The veteran recently opened up about the crazy fans.
“There was no social media when we were playing for India. I used to get a lot of letters and they were not written with ink but the level was a lot higher (blood). It was crazy stuff from the fans. The letters remained with me for a long time,” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports.
Pathan represented India across formats, but injuries, inconsistent performances, and biased team selection ended his career before time.
Irfan has become a renowned commentator and shares insights on international cricket and the Indian Premier League. He is currently busy in IPL 2024, and his views on the game often attract reactions.
He is backing Gujarat Titans in the 17th season of the tournament, while Punjab Kings are his second favorite team.
