Rishabh Pant has made a remarkable recovery from the surgeries and is making runs for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2024. Several wicket-keepers are in the fray for a spot in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul are in direct competition with DC’s captain.

Moreover, former India player Ambati Rayudu wants Dinesh Karthik to be Team India’s wicketkeeper after his brilliant performances for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 17th season. Rayudu commented after DK scored an attacking 83 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Karthik has been consistent and has been the best batter in the lower order.

Rayudu does not favor Rishabh and is backing Dinesh for the role. However, DC head coach Ricky Ponting has come out in favor of the southpaw. He said that Pant would be his first choice if he were to select the Indian team for the global tournament.

“Rishabh Pant has to be in the squad after what he has done for Delhi in this IPL. I know there is a lot of depth in Indian cricket. Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul are doing well in the Indian Premier League. But If I were to select a team, I would go with Pant,” he told PTI.

Pant was out of cricket for more than 14 months after suffering injuries in a car accident. He went through a lengthy rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and was declared fit just ahead of the new season of IPL. He looked rusty in the first two games against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals but regained his mojo in the other games. He has played good knocks and is getting better with every game.

Pant’s flexibility behind the stumps has returned, and his captaincy has been impressive. He has accumulated 194 runs at a strike rate of 157.72.
