Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), captained by Faf du Plessis, has suffered another major setback during the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB team's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who is struggling with continuous defeats, has decided to take a break from IPL 2024. He has also given the reason for this. However, the explosive player said that he wants some mental rest and can make a comeback after a short break this season.
Maxwell has not been able to do anything special in the current season and he is going through poor form. He did not get a good innings with his bat in even a single match. After this, many questions were raised on the Australian all-rounder. This season, Maxwell played 6 matches, in which he scored only 32 runs at an average of 5.33 and strike rate of 94.11. Maxwell was also out three times during this period.
Before taking a break from IPL 2024, the 35-year-old player said, “Maybe now the time has come to give a chance to someone else in my place in the team. This decision was easy for me. I need to give myself some mental and physical rest. I have talked to the coach and captain about this.”
He further said, “If the team needs me more, I will definitely come back with a solid mindset. After the powerplay, I could not perform as expected for the team.”
RCB's performance in IPL 2024 has not been anything special
If we talk about the performance of RCB, this season has been very bad for Bangalore so far. The team has lost 6 out of 7 matches so far. RCB has got only one win so far. The team is at the bottom i.e. 10th in the points table. Another defeat from here can knock RCB out of the playoffs.
Now it remains to be seen that if Maxwell returns to the playing eleven, how will he contribute to his team. Also, it will be interesting to see when he will return from the break.
