Former England captain Kevin Pietersen criticized England’s players for “disrespecting Indian conditions” after their 3-0 ODI series whitewash. India dominated the final match in Ahmedabad, winning by 142 runs. Pietersen highlighted England’s poor performance and revealed that the team had only one practice session during the entire series, as stated by former India head coach Ravi Shastri.

“From what I’ve gathered, England has had only one net session throughout this trip, if any at all. If you’re not willing to put in the effort, you’re not going to improve,” Shastri remarked on air as England faced a collapse in the final ODI.

Pietersen added, “Ravi Shastri and I were discussing upstairs that these players should have been practicing over the past week. They’ve had just one practice session, the day before the Nagpur game, and nothing since. Only one batter – Joe Root – even had a net session. I’m sorry, but you can’t come to the subcontinent, keep making the same errors, and then choose not to practice.”

He continued, “There’s no athlete, man or woman, who enters a series and thinks they’ll improve without practice. I’m genuinely shocked to hear that England hasn’t practiced since the first match. It’s unbelievable.”

Pietersen emphasized, “Look, I understand that players want to enjoy themselves. These moments are special, and playing golf or relaxing can be part of it. But you get paid to score runs and win cricket matches. You don’t get paid to play golf. This isn’t a golf tour – it’s a cricket tour.”

He further expressed, “You practice so that when you board the flight, you know you’ve given everything to win for your country. Honestly, I don’t think any England player, except perhaps Joe Root, can say they gave their all to win for England. And that’s honestly disappointing.”

During the T20I series, England batter Harry Brook mentioned the air quality in Kolkata, suggesting it affected his vision when he was dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy. Despite this, Brook struggled throughout the series, leading Pietersen to express his frustration with the England players, accusing them of “disrespecting” India.

Pietersen concluded, “I’m devastated to say this, but from an Englishman’s perspective, it feels like there’s a serious disrespect for Indian conditions and India itself.”
