The Women's Premier League returns for season 3 in the form of WPL 2025, which is all set to start on Friday (February 14) with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Gujarat Giants (GG) in the curtain-raiser.

Like the first two seasons of WPL, the third edition also will see five teams battle in double round-robin format in the league stage with the top three teams heading into the playoffs - Eliminator and the Final.

Unlike the IPL, WPL will have a two matches in the playoffs. The table-topper will move directly to the final, while the second and third-placed teams will fight for a summit clash berth in the Eliminator.

The five teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), Gujarat Giants (GG) and UP Warriorz (UPW) all had finalized their squads at the auction last year, but some sides were forced into replacements due to non availability of a few players.

RCB lost three players from their title-winning campaign as injury forced out Sophie Molineux, while Sophie Devine and Kate Cross pulled out due to personal reasons. Charlie Dean, Kim Garth and Heather Graham were roped in as their replacements.

RCB also lost Indian spinner Asha Shobana days ahead of the season due to injury, and replaced her with Nuzhat Parween, the wicketkeeper from Railways, who has represented India in 5 T20Is. Plus, Mumbai Indians also lost Pooja Vastrakar due to injury and replaced the Indian pacer with Parunika Sisodia, who was picked by the Gujarat Giants in the inaugural edition of the league

UP Warriorz also lost skipper Alyssa Healy forcing the team to announce West Indies all-rounder Chinelle Henry as the replacement for the Australian wicketkeeper with Deepti Sharma taking over the captaincy reins.

There was one more captaincy change in Gujarat Giants as Ashleigh Gardner replaced her compatriot Beth Mooney in the role as the franchise also made some changes to their backroom staff ahead of the season.
