Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are reportedly set to announce their captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season on February 13 (Thursday).

RCB parted ways with their former captain Faf du Plessis ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Now, the franchise is set to appoint a new leader to helm the team in the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.

The much-anticipated captaincy revelation was reportedly confirmed during the live broadcast of the third ODI between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Star Sports Network is expected to run a live broadcast of the announcement. The franchise has planned a special announcement on February 13, inviting the media, with key officials, including the RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat and head coach Andy Flower, in attendance.

While the new captain's name remains unconfirmed, Virat Kohli could be the frontrunner for the role. Kohli previously led RCB from 2013 to 2021 before stepping down and also served as stand-in captain for three matches in IPL 2023. Rajat Patidar is another strong candidate. The middle-order batter, Rajat Patidar, has been with RCB since 2021 and was one of their three retained players ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction. The 31-year-old also captained Madhya Pradesh in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Krunal Pandya could also be a contender for the role after being acquired by RCB for ₹5.75 crore. The three-time IPL winner might be part of the franchise's leadership plans.
