Sunrisers Hyderabad hammered Royal Challengers Bengaluru for 287/3, the highest score in the Indian Premier League’s history. RCB don’t have a good Indian spinner in the squad, and the one they traded was given just one game. Karn Sharma, who has an impressive track record in cash-rich league, was given one chance, and the management decided to drop him.
The Bengaluru-based franchise is more interested in part-time spinners than specialists. Former India player Wasim Jaffer spoke about RCB allowing Yuzvendra Chahal to leave before IPL 2022. Chahal, who now plays for Rajasthan Royals, is the highest wicket-taker in IPL, with 198 scalps.
Chahal won the Purple Cap in his first season with RR in 2023. “If I were RCB coach and had allowed Yuzvendra Chahal, the franchise would have sacked me. It is the biggest mystery in the league’s history why RCB did not retain Yuzi,” Wasim Jaffer said on Star Sports.
Varun Aaron also expressed surprise. “They don’t have an Indian spinner who can take wickets for them. The one they had was not retained,” he said.
Travis Head amassed a hundred, while Heinrich Klaasen slammed a breathtaking fifty to take Hyderabad to a record total.
