Shubman Gill led India’s batting charts during the first ODI against England in Nagpur. He scored 87 runs off 96 balls, laced with 14 fours, and was named the Player of the Match. The right-handed batter was playing a supportive role till Shreyas Iyer was at the crease.

However, Iyer’s dismissal forced Shubman to open his arms, and the batter didn’t stop before taking the Men in Blue close to a win. All-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja completed the formalities.

When he was on 70, English pacer Brydon Carse bowled a short ball, and Gill played a pull shot to dispatch it for a four. Speaking to Murali Kartik, he revealed that it was his favourite shot of the day. The 25-year-old also spoke with Anant Tyagi, Suresh Raina, and Sanjay Bangar after completing the formalities.

He named his three favourite shots. “The pull shot I played when I was on 70 was probably the shot of the day for me. Apart from pull, I like playing straight and cover drives and these are my favourite strokes,” he said.

Gill is the vice-captain of the ODI team and will assist Rohit Sharma in the ongoing series and also the Champions Trophy.
