Yashasvi Jaiswal opened up on sledging Mitchell Starc during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. In the opening Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Jaiswal reminded Starc that he was bowling slow. His sledge came after the left-arm seamer had warned Harshit Rana about his bowling speed when he came out to bat in Australia’s first innings.

Jaiswal scored 161 runs off 297 balls, laced with 13 fours and 3 sixes in the team’s second innings. India defeated Australia by 295 runs, with Yashasvi playing a key role.

“It was fun and I enjoyed the moment,” Jaiswal told Forbes India. The two were again involved in banter in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. On Day 5, Starc had flipped the bails to disturb Jaiswal, who flipped them back to their previous position. Starc asked the Indian batter if he was superstitious.

Recalling the moments with one of the greatest fast bowlers, Jaiswal said that the players from both teams tried to rattle the opposite numbers.

“Everyone is involved in banter as it is important to take wickets. I am happy to take sledging and enjoy the moment. I was playing for my country and they were representing their country,” he added.

He scored 391 runs from five Tests at an average of 43.44, including a hundred and two fifties.
