Star India pacer Mohammed Shami made his return to the Indian team after a 14-month break when he featured in the India vs England 3rd T20I recently.
Although he went wicketless in his comeback match, he bounced back in the IND vs ENG 5th T20I in Mumbai, taking three wickets in 2.3 overs while conceding 25 runs. With Jasprit Bumrah unavailable, Shami will spearhead India's pace attack in the three-match IND vs ENG ODI series. Shami also has his eyes set on an all-time ODI record.
Mohammed Shami is on the brink of a historic ODI world record. The Indian pacer needs just five more scalps to reach the coveted 200-wicket milestone in the format. And if he manages to do that in the 1st IND vs ENG ODI at Nagpur on February 6 (Thursday), Shami will match Australian premier pacer Mitchell Starc’s record of being the fastest to the 200-ODI wickets.
With 195 wickets in 101 ODIs, Shami will be aiming for a five-wicket haul to equal Mitchell Starc’s record as the fastest bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets, achieving the feat in 102 innings.

Shami To Play An ODI After 716 Days
34-year-old Shami, will mark his return to ODIs after 716 days as the veteran last played in the India vs Australia 2023 ODI World Cup 2023 final at Ahmedabad. Shami was in sensational form during that tournament, claiming 24 wickets in just seven matches at an average of 10.70, including a remarkable seven-wicket haul in the semifinal against New Zealand.
Although Shami has looked scratchy in his comeback T20Is despite taking a three-wicket haul, will look to find his best, given he will also most likely spearhead India’s pace attack in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
