January 31: It didn't quite seem all that pleasant for India as they vied for a berth in the summit clash of the U19 Women's T20 World Cup.

Davina Perrin was breathing fire in the semi-final with her breathtaking strokes as England raced to 37 without loss in the first four overs. But a certain left-arm spinner had other ideas. 19-year-old Parunika Sisodia was in no mood to throw in the towel.

In the fifth over, she castled Jemima Spence with a delivery that went on with the arm. Two balls later, Parunika cleaned up Trudy Johnson down the leg side. India didn't look back from there on as England scored only 76 runs off their last 93 balls, finishing at 113 for eight.

All it took for India was 15 overs to chase down the target, and .

The match against England was the only instance when India found themselves in a spot of bother throughout the tournament, but Parunika's match-winning spell of 4-0-21-3 powered them past the finish line. Parunika did not find a place in the Team of the Tournament where her spin bowling partners, Aayushi Shukla and Vaishnavi Sharma, and India's openers, Gongadi Trisha and G Kamalini, featured.Parunika Sisodia picked up 10 wickets in the Women's T20 World Cup 2025.

But Parunika had an economy rate of 2.71, the best amongst all the Indian bowlers. In fact, none of the Indians had an economy rate of less than three, with Aayushi's 3.01 being the second-best. Parunika picked up 10 wickets from six matches, backing up her stupendous performance in India's title-winning campaign in the U19 Asia Cup, where she shone with nine scalps at an economy rate of 4.22.

Niki Prasad and Kamalini are the ones from the U19 team who will be plying their trade in the upcoming Women's Premier League.

But even before them, Parunika had got a taste of India's premier domestic women's competition when Gujarat Giants picked her for the inaugural edition in 2023 at her base price of INR 10 lakhs.
