New Delhi: Fresh from scoring a magnificent century in the fifth T20I in Mumbai, Abhishek Sharma skyrocketed 38 places in the latest T20I rankings to the second spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings for batters.

While Abhishek made a massive gain in the batting chart, his teammate Tilak Varma dropped a place to third on Wednesday.

Abhishek played one of the best T20 innings in recent times and boosted his fledging international career with a blazing 135-run knock in the fifth and final T20I against England in Mumbai. His sensational knock powered India to a comprehensive 3-1 series win.

Abhishek took just 37 balls to reach the three-figure mark and became the second fastest century-scorer for India. His 54-ball 135-run knock was the highest score by an Indian men’s player in the shortest format. His 13 sixes was the most for India in an innings in men’s T20Is surpassing Rohit Sharma, who hit 10 against Sri Lanka in 2017, as well as Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma against South Africa in 2024.

Australia’s swashbuckling batter Travis Head maintains top spot in T20I batters’ chart. But Abhishek us hot on his heels – just 26 rating points behind the Australian following his record-breaking knock at Wankhede.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav is placed fifth despite an underwhelming series. His India teammates Hardik Pandya (up to 51st) and Shivam Dube (up to 58th) also made gains in the rankings following some good performances against England.

Chakravarthy makes big gain

In bowlers’ rankings, spinner Varun Chakravarthy jumped three places to joint second with Adil Rashid following a productive series against England. India’s mystery spinner picked up 14 wickets and was named Player of the Series.

Fellow tweaker Ravi Bishnoi (up four places to sixth) also moved up in the list after taking five wickets in the series against England. Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, placed ninth, is the third Indian bowler in top 10.

West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein returned to the top spot after reclaiming the No.1 ranking from Rashid Khan.

Smith moves big in Test batting charts

In Test rankings, Steve Smith gained three places to move up to fifth following his 35th Test century in the opening Test against Sri Lanka in Galle while opener Usman Khawaja jumped six spots to 11th after smashing his maiden double ton in Tests.

Indian opener Yashavi Jaiswal stayed static at fourth spot in the Test batters list. England’s Joe Root remains No.1 Test batter, followed by Harry Brook and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.

Jasprit Bumrah, who is recovering from back injury, maintained his top spot.
